Tool Works, (NYSE:
ITW) a diversified manufacturer of advanced industrial technology,
headquartered in Glenview, IL has chosen NTP Software solutions to
manage their unstructured data growth and improve enterprise wide storage
management polices. Through the implementation of NTP Software QFS® and NTP
Software Storage M&A™, ITW will identify contributors to storage growth as
well as produce key analytics that will drive corporate storage policy in an
effort to educate their user community on storage management best
practices. This will dramatically
decrease storage consumption as well as reduce the amount of storage that is
being wasted.
With
750 decentralized business units, located throughout 49 countries, Illinois
Tool Works needed a way to control their data effectively from one centralized
location and educate all of their end users on the vital organizational storage
polices. In order to realize both needs, ITW integrated QFS into their
environment. QFS provided the ability to configure and set polices they needed
to implement from one location, and then push those polices out to the rest of
the organization, saving time and resources. Once the polices were created, ITW
utilized the end user self service function in QFS to give their users the
necessary tools to manage their own storage space. With the new tools and
educational materials ITW end users now understand why storage is neither
infinite nor free.
The
second component that Illinois Tool Works required from a data management
solution was to have the ability to predict their storage usage, and proactively
plan for the coming years. As files continue to grow in number and size, an automated
analytics tool was necessary, ITW looked to Storage M&A to alleviate the
problem. M&A provides detailed reporting capabilities that can be
customized to ITW’s environment and explain their patterns of data usage.
“The
integration of NTP Software data management solutions in Illinois Tool Works
storage environment will insure cost effective management of their unstructured
data, allowing ITW to operate more efficiently, and eliminate the concerns of
unexpected data growth,” stated Aaron Dufoe, vice president of sales. “They now
have the ability to monitor their environment carefully and the control
mechanisms in place for proper storage management.”
