NTP Software, the worldwide leader in user-focused, policy-based storage management, today announced that Central Connecticut University (CCSU) can more effectively manage information as well as storage resources as a result of the NTP Software QFS? Family of Products.
CCSU’s information technology (IT) department is responsible for managing the storage needs of approximately 1,000 end users including students, faculty and staff. NTP Software QFS helps the department meet and project their storage needs by implementing quotas by user groups and maintaining storage parameters to fit the needs of individuals as well as enabling the university to store the right material in the right place.
“Our storage needs were going through the roof due to the expanding amounts of diverse data from student and staff usage,” said Rick Johnson, manager of IT services at CCSU. “NTP Software QFS has helped to manage our storage needs more effectively, which ultimately prevents us from having to continually buy more space – a very costly proposition for the University.”
Through automation and the self-service functionality of NTP Software QFS End User Infrastructure, that includes Storage Investigator, and User Helpsite, CCSU IT is free to address more strategic issues. Given the intranet-based architecture, users can request more storage though a formulized, online process.
“The storage requirements of an institution of higher learning are many given the amount of research documents and PowerPoint files, for example, that traverse the network,” said Bruce Backa, CEO, NTP Software. “Because universities have such sophisticated storage needs, we’re happy when NTP Software QFS can provide the easy solution by freeing up IT, preventing the daily ‘storage fire-drills’ and instilling a self-service model for all to use.”
